An HVAC system can facilitate the increase in density of airborne microorganisms in a building, especially mold, a major allergen. The HVAC system itself provides moisture and an otherwise favorable environment for biological colonization. During operation, the HVAC output air distributes spores and other microbes throughout the building.

The benefits of properly addressing this indoor air quality (IAQ) issue can be substantial. The reduction of airborne pathogens can make a significant and even major improvement in the welfare and the productivity of personnel.
